BHEL gets Rs 2,700 cr worth NTPC contracts

NEW DELHI: In a major commercial deal, state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals has bagged five major contracts worth over Rs 2,700 crore from India's largest power utility National Thermal Power Corporation.

The contracts have been awarded for setting up three power projects of NTPC with a combined power generating capacity of 1,710 MW.

The three projects are Sipat Super Thermal Power Project Stage-II (2x500 MW), Kahalgaon for 500 MW and one unit of 210 MW for Unchahar Thermal Power Project.

All the projects are scheduled to be completed in the Tenth Five Year Plan.

According to a statement issued by BHEL, "this is the first time that NTPC has awarded such a large number of contracts to BHEL. With this, NTPC has once again reposed confidence in BHEL's proven technological excellence and capability in executing projects of this magnitude."

Of the five contracts, four for Sipat and Kahalgaon (two packages each) have been received against international competitive bidding, the statement added.

BHEL's scope of work in these contracts envisages manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of steam turbines, generators, boilers, associated auxiliaries, balance of plant and electricals.
