NEW
DELHI
INDIA'S
export of electronic goods registered a record growth of 84 per cent
in 2000-01 at Rs 4788 crore as compared to the previous year.
Electronics
components, with an export turnover of Rs 1828 crore during 2000-01,
contributed over 38 per cent of the total electronics exports from the
country followed by computer hardware at 25 per cent, consumer electronics
at 13 per cent, telecom equipment and intrumentation equipment at 12
per cent each, an Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion
Council release said in New Delhi on Sunday.
The value
of Indian exports to the South Asian region went up by 130 per cent
at Rs 2042 crore in 2000-01 as against Rs 889 crore in 1999-2000, accounting
for 43 per cent of the country's total exports of electronics up from
25 per cent in the previous year, the release said.
The major
items of exports to this region comprise head stack, floppy diskettes,
semi-conductor devices, UPS and colour picture tubes, it said.
European
Union countries were the second largest importer of electronic goods
from India in 2000-01 registering a growth of 80 per cent over the previous
year at Rs 931 crore, the release said.
"The surge
in exports of electronic goods was due to a combination of factors like
introduction of newer items by the corporates in the export basket and
export thrust by the major players on account of slowdown in the domestic
market and above all streamlining of policies and procedures by the
Government," ESC Executive Director D K Sareen said.
At present
India exports electronic goods to 166 countries, the release said.
