to Equip Neyveli Lignite Expansion Wins Rs. 250 crore Contract
Siemens Ltd's Industrial Solutions& Services (I&S) Division
has won contracts totaling over Rs. 2500 million through machinery suppliers,
ThyssenKrupp India, L&T and ManTakraf for providing turnkey electrical
and automation solutions for Neyveli Lignite Corporation's (NLC) Mines
II Expansion project. The expansion will augment the overall mining
capacity at NLC by 4.5 mtpa and power generation capacity by 2 x 250MW.
The scope of the orders placed on Siemens includes design, manufacture,
supply, erection, commissioning and maintenance for special mining equipment
(SME) and shiftable conveyers. The company will supply the latest state-of-the-art
Simovert Master, a digital variable speed drive for all the machines
and the 2400 mm conveyor. The commissioning for these SMEs and conveyors
are to be completed within 28-34 months. As part of NLC's modernisation
endeavour, for the first time, the mines will be equipped with centralised
control and monitoring system with data transfer enabled through wireless
communication. With this technology, NLC will be able to achieve a substantial
reduction in production costs and increased plant availability. According
