Nalco
bags award for excellence
in export
BHUBANESWAR:
Public sector National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco) has bagged the
prestigious Niryat Shree award for 2000-01 and 2001-02 for excellence
in export.
Instituted
by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), the award was
received by the chairman- cum-managing director of the company C Venkatramana
from Vice-President Bhairon Singh Sekhawat at New Delhi on Friday, a
Nalco release said on Saturday.
Nalco
exported 4,95,723 tonnes of alumina during 2000-01 earning foreign exchange
of Rs 457.02 crore which represented a 15.3 per cent growth over the
previous year.
During
2001-02, the company exported 6,70,120 tonnes of alumina with a forex
earning of Rs 511.72 crore, recording a 11.9 per cent growth over the
previous year, it said.
In
aluminium products, Nalco achieved export earning of Rs 857.18 crore
by exporting 1,18,868 tonnes in 2000-01 and Rs 708.97 crore forex earning
through export of 1,06,282 tonnes during 2001-02.
The
release said Nalco had further improved its export performance during
2002-03 by posting a total export income of Rs 1,515 crore against record
sales turnover of Rs 2,734.32 crore. Nalco's alumina refinery at Damanjodi
in Koraput district is now the ninth largest plant in the world, it
said.
