Bhel commissions 159 MW gas turbine in Iraq

NEW DELHI: Bharat Heavy Electricals has commissioned a state-of-the-art 159 MW gas turbine, the first power generating unit, in post-war Iraq.

"This is the highest rating power plant equipment to have been exported from India as well as the highest rating gas turbine commissioned by Bhel in overseas market," the comapny said in a release said on Monday.

The unit, valued at Rs 900 crore, has been commissioned for the General Company Electrical Projects at its Baiji power plant located near Baghdad.

The order for four 159 MW gas turbine units was the single largest order cleared by the United Nations for any country under the 'Oil for Food' programme, the release added.
